No Injuries in Shrimp Boat Fire in Galveston

Photo credit: click from morguefile.com Three people on a shrimp boat escaped serious injuries during a fire in  the Galveston Bay. The accident occurred about 3 miles northeast of  Seabrook. There's no information  yet on what caused the fire. Fortunately, crewmembers of another boat, the Kemah Boardwalk Beast were able to rescue the crew members of the shrimp boat. Nine Seamen Killed in Fire on Freighter Bound for Houston

A tragic maritime accident on board a freighter bound for Houston, Texas last month killed 9 crew members. The vessel caught fire off the Venezuela coast on Christmas Day.  At least 5 people were injured in the accident. The vessel Aegean Wind, was hauling 37,000 tons of iron ore when the fire broke out just before dawn in the mess hall. Six of the nine dead were Filipinos, and the remaining were Greek. NTSB Investigation into Vessel Fire Determines Failure of Components as Cause

Last month, the National Transportation Safety Board determined that failure of a pressurized component on the port main propulsion hydraulic system was the cause of an engine room fire on a small passenger vessel. On April 8th 2008, the paddle wheel vessel, Queen of the West was traveling on the Columbia River near Ruffs in Oregon, when a fire broke out in the engine room.  The vessel had 124 passengers and 53 crewmembers on board.
